Durham MCCU reconvened on day two against Northants on 10 for 1, with a lot of work still to do, as they trailed by 308 runs.
Northants got off to a great start, as Maurice Chambers had Chaitanya Bishnoi caught behind for 6, with Durham having only added 6 runs to the overnight score. Durham then suffered a mini-collapse following the loss of their third wicket, as three wickets went down for just 6 runs.
Durham struggled throughout their innings, losing wickets in bunches, before finally ending on 114 all out. Maurice Chambers and Chad Barrett were the pick of the Northants bowlers, taking 3 wickets a piece.
In their second innings, Northants struggled to get going, losing several early key wickets, as Kettleborough, Coetzer and Sales were all dismissed by the time Northants had reached 23. Things looked like they were going to get worse, when Ben Duckett was caught off Matt Milnes with the score only on 54.
However 15-year-old Saif Zaib steadied the Northants ship, as he ended the day 54 not out, having led Northants to 149 for 6, with a lead of 353 runs. The young academy player did not look out of place, showing great maturity to see Northants through to the end of the day.
