Northants decided to declare on 149 for 6 overnight, leaving Durham MCCU with the large order of chasing 308 on the final day.
Northants got off to a great start, as Chad Barrett dismissed Cameron Steel for a duck, with the score only on three. However Durham MCCU came back fighting, as Rob Gibson and Chaitanya Bishnoi put together an 81 run partnership, before Gibson was caught off Graeme White for 35.
Two more wickets fell quite quickly as Northants started going up through the gears. Bishnoi however showed great fighting spirit, as wickets fell around him he managed to reach 99, before he was finally caught behind off Matthew Taylor just shy of a brilliant century.
The Bishnoi dismissal signalled the end for Durham MCCU, as the Northants bowlers finished off the tail end, bowling Durham out for 194, giving Northants victory by 159 runs. Graeme White was the pick of the Northants bowlers as he recorded figures of 4 for 42, whilst Chad Barrett had figures of 3 for 51.
This victory will give Northants some much needed momentum, as they travel to Trent Bridge to take on Nottinghamshire in the LV= County Championship on Sunday. The game starts at 11am, follow Northants Cricket on Twitter, @NorthantsCCC for regular updates.
