After rain washed out the opening day of the clash between Northants and Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge, it seemed the same may happen on day two. Fortunately the rain cleared, allowing the teams to take to the field for the first time after lunch on day two.
Nottinghamshire won the toss and with the overcast conditions, decided put Northants into bat. Northants got off to a great start, with the opening pair of Stephen Peters and James Middlebrook putting on 107 for the first wicket.
However when Middlebrook was caught behind for 47 off Siddle for the opening wicket, Northants struggled to keep batsmen at the crease to help support Peters who looked in fine form. Once again this season, Northants struggled to put a lengthy partnership together, with 33 runs being the best partnership after the opening wicket.
Captain Stephen Peters eventually fell to the outstanding Peter Siddle for 88. The Australian Test bowler Siddle, ended the day with figures of 4 for 75 from his 17 overs. Northants finished on 241 for 8, and will no doubt be looking for their second batting point when play resumes tomorrow morning.
